Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have been diagnosed with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma) confirmed by tissue sample and/or medical imaging
- People who have no more than five liver tumours on imaging scans, where the largest tumour is bigger than 8 cm
- People whose imaging scans show no cancer spread into blood vessels or bile ducts in the liver
- People whose scans show no cancer spread outside the liver (for example, to the lungs)
- People who have not previously received any treatment for liver cancer
- People whose liver is functioning at a level doctors classify as "Child-Pugh class A" (a medical measure of liver health — confirm with trial site)
- People who are generally well enough to carry out light activity, as rated on a standard medical scale (ECOG score of 0 or 1 — confirm with trial site)
- People whose recent blood tests (taken within one month of joining) show that major organs are working within acceptable ranges, including blood cell counts, liver function, kidney function, and blood clotting
- People who are expected to live for more than 3 months
- People who have read and understood the trial information and have given written consent to participate
- Women of childbearing age who are not currently pregnant
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose pre-treatment scan (using a special radioactive tracer called 99mTc-MAA) shows they are not suitable for the treatment — for example, if too much radiation would reach the lungs, or if there is a significant abnormal blood flow pattern in the liver that could expose healthy liver tissue to excessive radiation
- People where the healthy liver tissue outside the treatment area makes up less than 30% of their total healthy liver volume
- People who are already planned to receive immunotherapy regardless of how they respond to the trial treatment
- People who have had another active cancer within the last two years
- People who have previously had surgery or a procedure involving the bile ducts
- Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
