Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older.
- People with liver metastases (cancer that has spread to the liver) who have been recommended for surgery to remove those metastases by a specialist medical team.
- People who have given written consent to participate in the study.
- People who have at least one liver metastasis measuring 1.5 cm or more in its longest dimension, as seen on a scan such as an MRI, CT, or ultrasound.
- People with colorectal cancer (bowel cancer) who received treatment before being recommended for liver surgery — including those whose liver metastases were found at the same time as their original cancer diagnosis, those whose liver metastases appeared later, and those having a repeat liver surgery.
- People who are also having other local treatments (such as radiofrequency ablation) for cancer in other parts of the body, as long as at least one liver metastasis of sufficient size is still planned to be surgically removed.
- People receiving radiotherapy to the original tumour site before surgery (for example, in rectal cancer).
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are pregnant.
- People who are receiving pre-surgery chemotherapy that does not include a drug from the fluoropyrimidine group of medicines (confirm with trial site if unsure whether a specific chemotherapy regimen qualifies).
