Who may be able to join

  • People with a confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer (stage I to IV) that has not yet been treated with any first-line therapy and is planned to be treated with chemotherapy before surgery, or chemotherapy combined with radiation therapy before surgery.
  • The cancer must be measurable by ultrasound or MRI, with that scan done within 28 days before starting treatment.
  • People with an ECOG performance status of 0 or 1, meaning they are either fully active or able to carry out light activity but unable to do heavy physical work (confirm with trial site if unsure which category applies).
  • People with a life expectancy of at least 6 months.
  • People with adequate bone marrow, liver, and kidney function, confirmed by blood tests done within 7 days before starting treatment, including: sufficient haemoglobin, white blood cell count, neutrophil count, and platelet levels; normal bilirubin levels; liver enzyme levels within acceptable limits; and kidney function within normal limits or meeting a minimum clearance threshold.
  • People who are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a written consent form before any study procedures begin.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have had chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or major surgery within 4 weeks before joining the study, or who have not yet recovered from side effects of treatments given more than 4 weeks before joining.
  • People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial involving an investigational treatment.
  • People who have known cancer that has spread to the brain.
  • People with a history of serious allergic reactions to drugs with a similar chemical or biological makeup to those used in this trial.
  • People who are unable to safely receive radiation therapy, for example due to having previously had radiation to the same area of the body, having an active connective tissue disease, or having a genetic condition that makes them highly sensitive to radiation.
  • People who have a serious active infection currently requiring treatment with antibiotic, antifungal, or antiviral medication.
  • People with uncontrolled ongoing illness, including but not limited to active infection, heart failure with symptoms, unstable chest pain, or irregular heart rhythms.
  • People with a psychiatric illness or personal circumstances that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements.
  • People with a history of an active, ongoing seizure disorder.
  • People with substance abuse issues, or medical, psychological, or social conditions that could interfere with participation in the study or the assessment of results.
  • People with any unstable condition that could affect their safety or ability to comply with the study.

This study is not part of the standard drug-approval phase pathway (for example an observational, device, behavioural, or registry study), so a phase success rate does not apply.

This date has passed while the registry still lists the trial as open to participants. Sponsors often update a trial's status without revising its projected end date, so it may well still be recruiting — but the record is out of date in at least one respect. Check with the study contact before relying on either.
