Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older.
  • You have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer (a specific type called adenocarcinoma), confirmed by a tissue sample test.
  • Scans have shown that the cancer has spread to the liver only, with no confirmed spread to other parts of the body (small spots under 10mm in the lungs or lymph nodes may still be considered — confirm with trial site).
  • Your cancer has responded to or stayed stable after at least 8 rounds of chemotherapy.
  • A specialist liver surgery team has confirmed you have 10 or more liver tumours that could be treated through surgery, ablation (burning/freezing the tumour), and/or targeted radiation to leave no detectable cancer remaining.
  • The original bowel tumour can be surgically removed with the aim of a cure.
  • Your blood counts and liver and kidney function are within normal ranges.
  • Your liver is functioning well (rated as Child-Pugh grade A — confirm with trial site if unsure).
  • You are in good general health and able to carry out daily activities (rated 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale).
  • You are well enough to tolerate further surgery and chemotherapy.
  • Your life expectancy is more than 3 months.
  • You are willing and able to sign a consent form and attend follow-up appointments for the duration of the study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • The cancer has definitely spread beyond the liver, or the original bowel tumour cannot be fully removed by surgery.
  • You have severe blockages in your arteries or fluid build-up in your abdomen.
  • You have problems with bleeding or your blood does not clot properly.
  • You have severely high blood pressure that has caused a crisis or affected your brain.
  • You have serious uncontrolled health conditions such as infection or diabetes.
  • You have had a stroke or heart attack in the past 6 months, or have uncontrolled high blood pressure, unstable chest pain, significant heart failure, or a heart rhythm problem requiring medication.
  • You have or have had a brain tumour, uncontrolled epilepsy, cancer that has spread to the brain, or a history of stroke.
  • You have been diagnosed with another cancer in the past 5 years (certain skin cancers or early-stage cervical cancer that were fully treated may be exceptions — confirm with trial site).
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are a woman who could become pregnant and are not using an effective non-hormonal contraceptive method, or you are a man who could father a child and are not willing to use contraception.
  • You are unable or unwilling to follow the study plan and requirements.
  • You have any other health condition or finding that could make treatment risky or unsafe for you (confirm with trial site).
