Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your baby was born in New York State between September 27, 2023 and October 1, 2024
- Your baby received an evaluation for congenital CMV (a virus that can be passed from mother to baby before birth) at an officially designated New York State referral clinic
- Your family is willing and able to take part in all parts of the study
- Your baby falls into one of these four groups:
- Group 1: Your baby's newborn screening test was positive for CMV, and a follow-up confirmation test was also positive
- Group 2: Your baby's newborn screening test was negative for CMV, but a follow-up confirmation test came back positive
- Group 3: Your baby's newborn screening test was positive for CMV, but a follow-up confirmation test came back negative (sometimes called a "false positive")
- Group 4: Your baby was born prematurely (before 37 weeks), had a positive CMV result on any newborn screen taken before 44 weeks of age, and had a follow-up confirmation test that was also positive within 14 days of that screen
Who may not be able to join:
- Parents or guardians who do not want their baby to take part in the long-term follow-up portion of the study
