Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People for whom the local heart team has determined that a procedure to open a completely blocked coronary artery (called a CTO PCI) is medically appropriate, based on symptoms such as chest pain or proven reduced blood flow or living heart tissue in the affected area.
  • People whose completely blocked coronary artery is in a natural (non-stented) blood vessel, confirmed by an invasive heart imaging procedure.
  • People who have given their formal written agreement to take part in the study.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People under 18 years of age.
  • People who have recently had a heart attack.
  • People who are in cardiogenic shock (when the heart suddenly cannot pump enough blood to meet the body's needs).
  • People with severe disease affecting the heart valves.
  • People whose life expectancy is estimated to be less than one year.
  • People for whom the artery-opening procedure (PCI) is not considered safe or appropriate.
  • People who have tested positive for pregnancy or who are currently breastfeeding.
  • People whose blocked artery is located within a previously placed stent.
  • People whose blocked artery would need to be reopened using specific advanced techniques involving deliberate dissection and re-entry of the artery wall (confirm with trial site).
