Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer that has spread to the liver, as confirmed by a specialist medical team
- People whose liver metastases (cancer spread to the liver) appeared either at the same time as or after the original bowel cancer diagnosis, where the plan is to remove the liver metastases with the aim of curing the cancer
- In cases where the liver metastases are removed before the original bowel cancer, a blood sample for the study is collected only after both surgeries are fully completed
- People being treated with the aim of curing the cancer, including those receiving radiofrequency ablation (a heat-based treatment to destroy tumours) — though in these cases, a tissue sample from the original bowel cancer tumour is required
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose colorectal cancer is linked to a hereditary condition such as familial colonic polyposis or Lynch syndrome
- People whose cancer has spread to areas of the body outside the liver
- People diagnosed with a malignant colorectal polyp that was found and removed during a bowel procedure
- People found to have a second, unrelated cancer (other than certain skin cancers) at the time of surgery
- People who have had another cancer (not including colorectal cancer or non-melanoma skin cancer) within the past 3 years
- People who, in the investigator's judgement, are unlikely to follow the study requirements or complete all required visits
- People who have liver cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
- People whose liver surgery cannot be, or was not, performed with the aim of curing the cancer
- People for whom no tumour tissue sample is available (ideally from the liver metastasis, or alternatively from the original bowel tumour)
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or of childbearing potential who are not willing to use contraception
- People who are legally considered a protected or vulnerable adult
- People who do not have health insurance coverage
- People who are unable to understand or sign a written consent form
