Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have recently been diagnosed with moderate or severe sleep apnea, meaning their breathing stops or becomes shallow more than 15 times per hour during sleep.
- People who are between 18 and 70 years old.
- People who do not have a history of severe heart or brain/nervous system problems that are currently uncontrolled.
- People who are able to follow all the requirements set out in the study agreement.
- People who are able to follow instructions from the study doctor and research team.
- People who can understand English and are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously used a PAP (pressurised air breathing) machine for sleep apnea.
- People who are currently using a bi-level PAP machine or who need oxygen therapy.
- People with serious or unstable medical conditions, such as cancer, dementia, unstable heart or lung disease, or unstable mental health conditions.
- People whose sleep apnea, in the treating clinician's opinion, may pose a risk to their health or safety during the trial.
- People who are unwilling or unable to provide written consent to participate.
- People with certain serious medical conditions, including neuromuscular disease, nerve damage affecting the tongue, severe lung disease, moderate-to-severe high blood pressure in the lungs, severe heart valve disease, advanced heart failure, a heart attack or serious irregular heartbeat in the past 6 months, high blood pressure that remains uncontrolled despite medication, active psychiatric illness, or other sleep disorders unrelated to breathing that could affect how sleep is measured.
- People who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding.
