Who may be able to join

AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with a type of heart attack called a non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (a specific kind of heart attack — confirm with trial site if unsure which type applies)
  • People who have completed a heart procedure called coronary PCI (a procedure to open blocked heart arteries)
  • Men aged 18 or older, or women aged 18 or older who are not able to become pregnant (for example, due to menopause, a hysterectomy, or another medical condition that prevents pregnancy)
  • People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
  • People for whom a special heart CT scan (called a CCTA) can be arranged within 7 days after their PCI procedure

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have received a flu vaccine in the past 6 months
  • People who have another vaccine planned within the next 8 weeks, including a COVID-19 booster
  • People with a severe allergy to eggs, or who have had an allergic reaction to a flu vaccine in the past
  • People who have heart surgery or another PCI procedure planned within the next 8 weeks
  • People whose coronary stent is placed in a specific part of the heart artery called the proximal right coronary artery (confirm with trial site)
  • People who show signs of a fever or an active infection at the time of the trial
  • People who are allergic to any ingredient in the flu vaccine being used in this trial (called Vaxigrip), including egg proteins, neomycin, formaldehyde, or octoxinol
  • People whose immune system is weakened — either due to a medical condition or as a result of medication — in a way that may reduce how well a vaccine works for them
  • People who are not able to give informed consent
  • People who have already taken part in the ELIMINATE trial previously
  • People with a non-heart-related condition, such as certain cancers, where a doctor estimates life expectancy to be less than one year
  • People for whom the heart CT scan (CCTA) is not medically suitable — for example, those who cannot lie flat, who cannot receive a certain medication used during the scan (glyceryl trinitrate), who have had a serious reaction to contrast dye before, or who have severely reduced kidney function (confirm specific kidney threshold with trial site)
  • People who have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm condition)
  • People with a long-term inflammatory disease that is not well controlled
  • People who would not be able to follow the requirements of the trial as planned
