Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have never received chemotherapy before and have a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer at stage I, II, or III
- People whose treatment plan includes at least 4 cycles of a chemotherapy drug called doxorubicin
- People who are reasonably able to carry out daily activities (assessed using a standard medical scoring system called the ECOG scale, with a score below 2)
- People whose heart is pumping at a normal or healthy level, confirmed by an ultrasound scan of the heart (a measure called LVEF of 55% or above)
- People with healthy blood counts within normal acceptable ranges, including white blood cells, platelets, and haemoglobin
- People with adequate liver and kidney function
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People younger than 18 or older than 65 years of age
- People who have received a type of chemotherapy called anthracyclines within the last 6 months
- People who have signs that their cancer has spread to other parts of the body at the time of initial assessment
- People who have taken a type of diabetes medication called SGLT-2 inhibitors in the 6 months before screening
- People who are already taking any medications intended to protect the heart
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People with a history of alcohol abuse
- People with a history of heart failure or a heart pumping level (LVEF) below 50%
- People with certain heart-related conditions, including chest pain (angina), heart valve problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, or those who have had heart surgery within the last 3 months
- People with type 1 diabetes, a serious diabetes complication called diabetic ketoacidosis, a history of stroke, or severely reduced kidney function (confirm with trial site for specific kidney function threshold)
- People currently taking an antibiotic called gatifloxacin, due to a significant interaction with the study drug dapagliflozin
