Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 18 and 65 years of age
- People who have been diagnosed with compensated cirrhosis (a form of liver scarring where the liver is still managing to function), confirmed through a liver biopsy, blood tests, or ultrasound scan
- People whose heart scans (a type of echocardiogram) show a specific pattern of heart changes linked to liver disease, known as cirrhotic cardiomyopathy, with the heart still pumping well (ejection fraction above 50%)
- People who have given written consent to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People over 65 years of age
- People with significantly reduced kidney function, shown by a creatinine blood test result above 2 mg/dl
- People who have taken a statin medication (a type of cholesterol-lowering drug) in the month before the study
- People who have a medical reason they cannot take statins
- People with more advanced liver disease, measured by a liver scoring system (CTP score above 9)
- People with coronary artery disease (blocked or narrowed heart arteries)
- People with certain heart rhythm or electrical problems, including sick sinus syndrome, a pacemaker, or heart valve disease
- People with other heart conditions, including certain rhythm disorders or a type of heart muscle weakness that can occur around childbirth
- People with specific complications involving the blood vessels between the lungs and liver (portopulmonary hypertension or hepatopulmonary syndrome)
- People who have had a procedure to create a bypass channel in the liver (called a TIPS procedure)
- People who have liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma)
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People living with HIV or who are on antiviral (retroviral) therapy
- People with low haemoglobin levels — below 8 g/dl for women or below 9 g/dl for men — indicating anaemia
- People who have had a serious bleeding episode from enlarged veins in the food pipe or stomach in the past 6 months
- People who regularly take certain medications that are processed by a specific liver enzyme (CYP3A4), such as some blood pressure medicines, antifungal medicines, or HIV medicines (confirm with trial site)
