Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with stable coronary artery disease, a type of heart attack called non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or unstable angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart)
  • People whose left main coronary artery (a major blood vessel supplying the heart) has a blockage confirmed by a specialised heart X-ray or scan
  • People whose heart specialist team has agreed that a procedure to open blocked arteries using a small tube and stent (called PCI) is appropriate for them, both medically and based on the structure of their arteries
  • People who have given written consent before having the PCI procedure
  • People whose blockage pattern in the left main artery matches one of four specific classification types (called Medina 1,1,1 or 1,0,1 or 0,1,1 or 0,0,1), confirmed by a specialised heart X-ray
  • People who have a new blockage in a specific area of the left main artery that the treating doctor considers suitable for a particular stenting technique
  • People who have a new blockage at the opening of a specific branching artery called the left circumflex artery
  • People where that branching artery blockage is shorter than 10 mm in length, or causes less than 70% narrowing, confirmed by a specialised heart X-ray

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are unable to provide written informed consent
  • People who have had a specific type of heart attack (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) within the past week
  • People who are currently in cardiogenic shock (when the heart is suddenly unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs)
  • People who have previously had coronary artery bypass graft surgery (a type of open-heart surgery to reroute blood around blocked arteries)
  • People who have been diagnosed with cancer or another serious condition where life expectancy is less than one year
  • People whom the treating doctor considers medically appropriate for placing a stent directly into the opening of the branching artery (left circumflex artery)
  • People who are considered unsuitable for blood-thinning medication after the PCI procedure
  • People whom the trial investigator considers unsuitable for safely undergoing the left main artery procedure used in this trial, including the specific stenting technique being studied (confirm with trial site)
