Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 35 and 80 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with dyslipidemia (a condition where blood fat levels such as cholesterol or triglycerides are abnormal), either through a previous diagnosis, current medication for it, or a recent blood test showing: total cholesterol of 200 mg/dl or higher, triglycerides of 180 mg/dl or higher, HDL ("good") cholesterol of 40 mg/dl or lower, or LDL ("bad") cholesterol of 150 mg/dl or higher
- People with moderate to severe sleep apnea, meaning their breathing is interrupted more than 15 times per hour during sleep
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose sleep apnea is mainly caused by signals from the brain rather than physical airway blockage, specifically where more than 25% of breathing interruptions during sleep are of this type (confirm with trial site)
- People who, based on international sleep medicine guidelines, are already recommended to use a CPAP machine — for example, those with high blood pressure, excessive daytime sleepiness (a score above 11 on a standard sleepiness questionnaire), or significantly reduced quality of life related to their sleep, as judged by their regular doctor
- People who are professional drivers, work in a profession considered high-risk due to sleepiness, or have a level of breathing difficulty during the day that meets clinical criteria for respiratory insufficiency (confirm with trial site)
- People who are already being treated with a CPAP machine
