Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are male or female and aged 18 or over
  • You are scheduled to have surgery in a specific area at the base of the brain called the cerebellopontine angle (this includes procedures such as microvascular decompression, vestibular neurotomy, or removal of a meningioma or schwannoma tumour)
  • You either have a mild to severe level of hearing loss in the ear being operated on (as measured by a specific hearing test), OR you have normal hearing in the ear being operated on (as measured by the same type of test)
  • You are covered by a social security (health insurance) system
  • You have read the study information and agreed in writing to take part by signing a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • Your auditory (hearing) nerve cannot be accessed during surgery because the tumour has completely grown into it (confirm with trial site)
  • Your auditory nerve cannot be accessed during surgery because of an unexpected feature of your anatomy that was not spotted before the operation, making it impossible to record from the nerve (confirm with trial site)
