Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Women (people who were assigned female sex at birth) who have been diagnosed with coronary heart disease — for example, those who have had heart bypass surgery, a stent procedure, a heart attack, or certain types of reduced blood flow to the heart — at least 4 weeks after their procedure or cardiac event.
  • People who are able to complete a supervised exercise test that measures heart and lung performance (called a CPET), which is used to measure fitness and plan a safe exercise program.
  • People who can read and understand English or French.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are already doing regular, structured exercise more than twice a week (such as a planned fitness routine aimed at maintaining or improving fitness).
  • People who have severe heart failure symptoms (classified as NYHA class III or IV), unstable chest pain (unstable angina), or a confirmed diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe narrowing of the mitral or aortic heart valves, or a specific thickening of the heart muscle that blocks blood flow (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy).
  • People who have an uncontrolled irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), as this could affect how exercise intensity is safely monitored and planned.
  • People who are not able to provide written consent to participate.
  • People who are not willing or not able to come back for follow-up visits at 12 weeks and 26 weeks after joining.
  • People who are not willing to be randomly assigned to one of the two exercise programs being studied.

This study is not part of the standard drug-approval phase pathway (for example an observational, device, behavioural, or registry study), so a phase success rate does not apply.
