Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 to 80 years, of any gender
- People with a normal-looking ear canal and eardrum on examination by a doctor
- People who are already scheduled for a specific type of brain surgery involving an area near the ear called the cerebellopontine angle (a procedure called microvascular decompression)
- People enrolled in a social security scheme
- People who have read the study information and agreed to take part by signing a consent form
- For the hearing-impaired group: People with mild hearing loss in the inner ear or hearing nerve, measured at a specific range on a hearing test (between 21 and 40 dB HL across several sound frequencies)
- For the normal-hearing group: People with no inner ear or hearing nerve hearing loss, with hearing test results at or below 20 dB HL across several sound frequencies, in both ears
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose hearing nerve cannot be reached during surgery due to a tumour that has fully grown into the nerve (advanced-stage tumours, such as stage III or IV neuroma, or advanced meningioma)
- People whose anatomy, not identified before surgery, makes it impossible to access the hearing nerve during the operation (confirm with trial site)
