  • If you use a cochlear implant: you can correctly recognize spoken words in English at least 50% of the time
  • You are a fluent speaker of North American English
  • You do not have any language-learning difficulties or other cognitive disabilities
  • You do not have a condition called auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (a specific type of hearing nerve problem — confirm with trial site if unsure)

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are unable to hold your gaze steady (keep your eyes focused in one direction)
  • You have an eye condition that prevents your pupils from dilating (changing size) normally
  • You are not fluent in understanding and speaking English
