Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender or ethnicity
- People who have been diagnosed with stage 5 chronic kidney disease (the most advanced stage of kidney failure), based on established medical guidelines
- People who are newly diagnosed with kidney failure and are planning to start regular dialysis (either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis), or people who are already receiving regular dialysis
- People for whom valid contact details are available for follow-up, either for the patient or a family member
- People who have signed a consent form and are able to complete a specific heart-related quality-of-life questionnaire (called the KCCQ)
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose kidney problems developed suddenly (acute kidney injury), rather than over a long period
- People with severe mental health conditions that would make it difficult to complete questionnaires
- People who have had a heart attack, a coronary artery stent procedure, heart bypass surgery, or a pacemaker fitted within the past three months
- People with certain specific types of heart disease, including a condition where protein builds up in the heart (cardiac amyloidosis), heart conditions present from birth (congenital heart disease), or diseases affecting the sac surrounding the heart (pericardial diseases)
- People with ongoing long-term lung disease
- People with serious underlying health conditions such as severe infections, cancer, or severe liver disease
- People who are scheduled to receive a kidney transplant
