Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are female.
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old.
  • You have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia using the 2016 fibromyalgia diagnostic criteria.
  • Your pain over the last 7 days has been rated between 4 and 10 on a pain scale, you have had no pain-free days in the last 2 months, and you still feel pain while lying on your back at rest.
  • You have no reason why you cannot have an MRI scan, such as having metal implants or electrical devices inside your body.
  • You are willing to avoid starting new medications or treatments for fibromyalgia during the study.
  • You are able to travel to the study site up to twice a week for MRI and treatment sessions.
  • You are willing and able to complete all parts of the study.
  • You are able to give written consent to take part.
  • You can speak, read, and write in English well enough to take part.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have received a treatment called Energy Healing (EH) in the last 6 months.
  • You have previously been treated by someone named Charlie Goldsmith, or you are familiar with him or his work.
  • You have any reason that makes an MRI unsafe for you, such as surgical clips, metal implants, certain dental metalwork, or claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces).
  • You have another condition that causes pain and involves your immune system, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or inflammatory bowel disease.
  • You have nerve damage in your hands or feet that affects your daily life.
  • You regularly take strong prescription pain medications (opioids/narcotics) every day, or you have a history of substance abuse.
  • You take stimulant medications, such as those used for ADHD (for example, Adderall or Ritalin) or for conditions like sleep apnea or shift work fatigue (for example, modafinil).
  • You are currently taking part in another treatment-based research trial.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You have a serious psychiatric condition, such as schizophrenia or major depression with thoughts of suicide.
  • You have had an active substance abuse problem in the past 24 months, based on your own report.
  • You have taken over-the-counter pain relievers (such as ibuprofen) on the same day as an MRI scan.
  • You have taken narcotic pain medication within 48 hours before an MRI scan.
  • You are currently involved in a legal case related to your fibromyalgia pain.
  • The study team believes that any other situation or issue you have would prevent you from completing the study successfully (confirm with trial site).
