Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with HIV, according to China's official HIV/AIDS diagnosis guidelines
- People aged 40 years or older
- People who are at risk of heart or blood vessel disease, either by having any two of the following: abnormal cholesterol or blood fat levels, diabetes or raised blood sugar, smoking, high blood pressure or raised blood pressure readings, metabolic syndrome, or being overweight or obese — or by having a cardiovascular risk score above 5% (confirm with trial site for how this score is calculated)
- People whose doctors expect them to survive for more than one year
- People who do not plan to leave the study location within the next 3 months
- People who are willing to take part and have signed a consent form agreeing to join the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have previously had a heart attack, stroke, or other heart or blood vessel disease
- People who have HIV-related cognitive or memory problems, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or serious HIV-related infections
- People currently living with cancer, digestive or gastrointestinal conditions, or who have an aversion to eating
- People who have an allergy to nuts or fish
- People who currently take more than 1,000 mg of supplemental calcium per day, or who take omega-3 supplements
- People who plan to become pregnant within the next 6 months
- People who are currently taking part in another research study related to HIV or to dietary changes
