Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older
- People who have received at least 3 doses of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine as their primary vaccine series
- People who have had a solid organ transplant (such as a kidney, liver, or heart) at least 3 months ago and are currently on standard anti-rejection (immunosuppression) medications
- People living with HIV who have been on HIV treatment for at least 6 months, and who also have at least one of the following: an AIDS-related illness in the last 6 months, a tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis in the last 6 months, a low CD4 cell count (below 200 cells/µL or below 15%) in the last 6 months, or HIV that is not fully controlled in the last 6 months
- People with inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis) who have been on standard or biologic immune-suppressing treatment for at least 3 months
- People with rheumatoid arthritis or lupus who have been on standard or biologic immune-suppressing treatment for at least 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People who received a flu vaccine less than 6 months ago
- People who received a COVID-19 booster dose less than 3 months ago
- People who have previously had a life-threatening allergic reaction to any ingredient in a flu vaccine or COVID-19 vaccine
- People who have had Guillain-Barré syndrome (a serious nerve condition) or myocarditis (heart inflammation) within 6 weeks of receiving a flu or COVID-19 vaccine in the past
- People who have a medical reason why they cannot receive injections into the muscle, such as a bleeding disorder or very low platelet count
- People currently receiving intravenous immunoglobulin (antibody) therapy
- People who have an inherited immune system disorder (sometimes called a primary immunodeficiency)
- People who have received chemotherapy drugs such as cyclophosphamide within the last 6 months
- People who are unable to give informed consent to participate
