Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 18 and 75 years of age
- People whose liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, or HCC) has come back after previous treatment, and this is either the first or second time it has returned
- People whose returned cancer meets specific size limits — either one tumor smaller than 5 cm, or no more than three tumors each smaller than 3 cm (a standard called the "Milan criteria")
- People whose cancer returned within less than one year after their previous treatment
- People who are not willing to have another liver surgery or a liver transplant
- People whose liver is still functioning reasonably well, based on standard medical tests (Child-Pugh class A or B, with a blood clotting time not too far outside the normal range)
- People who are largely able to carry out daily activities with little or no restriction (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to understand the trial process and are willing to sign a consent form
Who may not be able to join:
- People younger than 18 or older than 75 years of age
- People who have been newly diagnosed with liver cancer that has not previously been treated (i.e., it has not returned — this is their first occurrence)
- People whose returned cancer is larger or more widespread than the size limits described above
- People whose returned cancer has spread to other parts of the body or has grown into major blood vessels near the liver
