Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 65 years of age.
- People who have been diagnosed with established rheumatoid arthritis.
- People whose rheumatoid arthritis is considered moderately to highly active, based on a specific scoring system that uses a blood marker called C-reactive protein (a score above 3.2 on the DAS-28-CRP scale).
- People who have been on a stable dose of one or more standard rheumatoid arthritis medications (known as conventional DMARDs) for at least the past three months.
- People who are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to nicotinamide (a form of vitamin B3).
- People who are already taking nicotinamide for any reason.
- People who are currently taking any form of vitamin B3 supplements.
- People who are currently being treated with biologic medications for rheumatoid arthritis.
- People whose liver is not functioning well, based on blood test results showing liver enzyme levels at three times or more above the normal range.
- People whose kidneys are not functioning well, based on a kidney function measure (eGFR) below 30 ml/min.
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who have other autoimmune diseases in addition to rheumatoid arthritis.
