Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who are able to give their informed consent to participate
- People who have been diagnosed with a type of head and neck cancer (called HNSCC) affecting areas such as the mouth, throat, voice box, nasal sinuses, skin, or nearby lymph nodes in the neck — including cases where the original source of the cancer is unknown
- People whose cancer is either newly diagnosed or has come back or spread to other parts of the body
- People whose treatment plan includes cisplatin (a chemotherapy drug) and/or radiation therapy. For radiation therapy alone, the cancer must be located near the inner ear, such as in the nasopharynx (back of the nose/throat), temporal bone (part of the skull), or parotid salivary gland
- People whose doctor estimates they have a life expectancy of more than 3 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People who already have severe hearing loss in both ears that would make it impossible to carry out an accurate hearing test — this may be assessed based on the person's own account, their medical history, or a hearing test done before or after agreeing to participate
- People who are unable to take part in a hearing test, based on the treating doctor's judgment
