- People who are known to be pregnant.
- People whose heart is too weak to pump enough blood around the body (a condition called cardiogenic shock).
- People who cannot safely receive blood-thinning medication.
- People who have developed a serious mechanical complication of their heart attack, such as a hole in the heart wall or a problem with a heart valve.
- People whose blood has a low red cell count (haemoglobin below 10 g/dL).
- People who have had a serious bleeding event or major surgery within the past two months.
- People who cannot have a cardiac MRI scan, for example due to severe claustrophobia or having certain metal objects in their body.
- People who are unable to provide verbal consent witnessed by another person.
