Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People who regularly use a cochlear implant that has at least 18 active electrodes and who keep up with their programming appointments
- People who received their cochlear implant at least 6 months ago and who also wear a hearing aid in the opposite ear
- People whose hearing in the opposite (hearing aid) ear falls within a specific range — a pure tone average between 30 and 70 dB across certain frequencies (confirm with trial site)
- People who have been using standard FAT settings across all their cochlear implant programs before joining the study
- People with no known physical abnormalities in either ear
- People who speak English
- People with no known cognitive impairments
Who may not be able to join:
- People under the age of 18
- People who do not speak English, as the speech tests used in this study are only validated in English
- People with known cognitive impairments
- People who do not use their cochlear implant consistently
- People whose hearing loss in the opposite ear is greater than 70 dB pure tone average
- People with normal hearing or only mild hearing loss in the opposite ear
- People using non-standard FAT programs on their cochlear implant
- People whose hearing aid uses any frequency transposition programming
