Who may be able to join

  • Women aged 18 or older
  • People who have been confirmed through a tissue sample (before surgery) to have invasive breast cancer or a type of early-stage breast cancer called ductal carcinoma in situ
  • People whose tumour is classified as a smaller size, with the largest measurement being no more than 5 cm
  • People with a single tumour in one area of the breast, confirmed by ultrasound, MRI, or other imaging before surgery
  • People with no signs — either from physical examination or imaging — that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body
  • People who are willing and able to give signed consent to participate

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People whose tumour is located in the lower inner section of the breast
  • People whose tumour is present in more than one section of the breast
  • People whose imaging or surgical tissue results show the tumour has grown into the nipple, the skin, or the large chest muscle behind the breast
  • People with locally advanced breast cancer who are currently receiving treatment before surgery (called neoadjuvant therapy)
  • People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial that may affect participation in this trial
  • People who have had breast cancer before, specifically those whose cancer has come back after a previous breast-conserving surgery on the same breast
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People with serious heart or lung disease, or severely reduced lung function, that would make a specific surgical technique used in this trial unsafe (confirm with trial site)
