Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged 50 or older, of any sex
• People who have been diagnosed with COPD (a chronic lung condition) according to recognised 2022 medical guidelines, whose condition is currently stable (no flare-ups in the last 4 weeks), and who have been recommended for breathing rehabilitation
• People who have not taken part in a breathing rehabilitation programme in the past 12 months
• People who are enrolled in the French social security system
• Women who could potentially become pregnant and have been using effective contraception (such as the pill, an intrauterine device, or tubal ligation) for at least 1 month before joining
• Women who have gone through menopause, confirmed by having had no periods for at least 12 months without a medical cause
• People who have read and understood the information provided about the trial and have signed a consent form

Who may not be able to join:

• People with a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) of 30 or above
• People who have already been diagnosed with sleep apnoea (a condition where breathing repeatedly stops during sleep) with more than 10 episodes per hour
• People who currently use a CPAP machine or a breathing support device (non-invasive ventilation)
• People currently taking steroid tablets or other systemic corticosteroid medicines
• People currently taking medicines that act on the brain or central nervous system, such as benzodiazepines (e.g. sleeping tablets or anxiety medicines) or opiates (e.g. strong pain relief medicines)
• People who have had a severe COPD flare-up
• People who have another long-term breathing or respiratory condition in addition to COPD
• People currently being treated for active cancer
• People with a neuromuscular disease (a condition affecting the nerves and muscles)
• People with a physical disability, injury, or neurological condition that would prevent them from taking part in a breathing rehabilitation programme
• People with psychiatric, cognitive, or language difficulties that would make it impossible to understand or follow the trial procedures
• People with any other medical condition or reason that would make breathing rehabilitation unsafe or impossible, including any heart or cardiovascular condition that would rule it out
• People who are under legal restriction of freedom (for example, detained by an administrative or court order), or who are under legal guardianship or protection measures
• Women who are pregnant, have recently given birth, or are currently breastfeeding
