Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults who were between 18 and 75 years old when they were diagnosed
- People who have been confirmed by laboratory testing (from a tissue or cell sample) to have pancreatic adenocarcinoma (a specific type of pancreatic cancer) that was considered removable by surgery or borderline removable at the time of diagnosis
- People who, at diagnosis, had a limited number of cancer spots on the liver only — specifically up to 3 spots visible on scans — with no cancer spread to other areas of the body
- People who are in reasonably good general health and able to carry out daily activities (confirm with trial site regarding the specific fitness scale used)
- People whose cancer showed a partial response or was stable after completing their first course of chemotherapy, as measured by standard scan-based guidelines
- People whose blood levels of a cancer marker called CA19-9 stayed the same or went down (or rose by no more than 20%) after chemotherapy
- People whose liver spots are considered removable by surgery, or small enough (no larger than 20mm) to potentially be treated with a needle-based heat treatment
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose pancreatic cancer has grown in a way that blocks it from being surgically removed, based on standard cancer guidelines
- People whose liver disease is considered too extensive to be removed, as decided by a team of specialists
- People whose cancer has spread to organs other than the liver
- People who have serious other health conditions that would make surgery too risky
- People who are pregnant
- People who have a medical reason why surgery would not be safe for them
- People who have already had surgery to remove the primary pancreatic tumour or any liver spots
- People who have cancer that has spread beyond the liver
- People who are unable to give informed consent or to attend follow-up appointments
- People whose cancer progressed (grew or spread) after chemotherapy, based on standard scan measurements
- People whose CA19-9 blood marker levels rose by more than 20% after chemotherapy
