Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older.
- People whose heart pumping function is normal or only mildly reduced, confirmed by a heart ultrasound done within the last month (showing a pumping score above 40%).
- People who need a pacemaker because their heart's electrical signal between the upper and lower chambers is significantly blocked, and whose pacemaker is expected to be controlling the lower chambers more than 80% of the time.
- People with a life expectancy of more than 12 months who are able to understand the study, sign a consent form, and attend follow-up appointments.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who need a type of heart device that also delivers electric shocks to correct dangerous heart rhythms (an implantable cardioverter defibrillator).
- People who need a special type of pacemaker that coordinates both sides of the heart (cardiac resynchronisation therapy device), or whose heart pumping score is below 40%.
- People whose heart pumping function was previously very poor (pumping score below 30%) but has since recovered.
- People who have had a heart attack, a procedure to open blocked heart arteries, or heart surgery within the 6 months before joining the study.
- People who are pregnant, currently receiving active cancer treatment, or already taking part in another clinical trial that involves an active treatment.
