Who may be able to join

  • People who have been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) according to standard diagnostic guidelines (DSM-5-TR).
  • People who still have ongoing depression symptoms, shown by a score above 7 on a standard depression rating scale called the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale.
  • People who are 18 years of age or older.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who score below 18 on a standard memory and thinking test (MMSE) or above 2 on a scale used to measure dementia severity (CDR).
  • People who have another neurological condition such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, a serious head injury, or epilepsy, or a psychiatric condition other than those included in the study, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
  • People who have serious, sudden, or poorly controlled long-term physical health conditions.
  • People who have hormonal (endocrine) disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or who have been exposed to medications known to affect memory, thinking, or mood.
  • People who misuse alcohol or use recreational drugs.
  • People who cannot safely have an MRI or a brain stimulation procedure called TMS — for example, those with implanted medical devices, metal fragments or prostheses in the body, a history of brain surgery, or a history of epilepsy.
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

This date has passed while the registry still lists the trial as open to participants. Sponsors often update a trial's status without revising its projected end date, so it may well still be recruiting — but the record is out of date in at least one respect. Check with the study contact before relying on either.
