Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults (over 18 years old) who are listed to receive a liver transplant and have been diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (a type of liver cancer), confirmed by a specific scan result or a tissue biopsy
- People whose liver cancer meets a size and number rule called the "up to seven criteria" — where the size of the largest tumour (in centimetres) plus the total number of tumours adds up to seven or less, measured at the time of transplant
- People whose liver cancer was originally larger but was successfully reduced to meet the above criteria through treatment
- People who have given written agreement to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- Cases where the donor liver came from a donor whose heart had stopped before donation (known as donation after circulatory death)
- People receiving a liver transplant combined with another organ transplant at the same time
- People receiving only a partial liver (rather than a whole liver transplant)
- People whose removed liver is found on examination to contain a mixed or combined type of liver cancer, bile duct cancer, or any other cancer type beyond standard hepatocellular carcinoma
- People who have been treated with certain cancer medications called checkpoint inhibitors or multikinase inhibitors
- People who receive a specific type of medication called mTOR inhibitors after the transplant
- People with sudden or unexpected medical reasons that make the procedure unsafe (confirm with trial site)
- People who are pregnant
- Cases where the donor liver has been stored for more than 10 hours before transplant
