Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 19 years or older
- People who have no symptoms but have a significant buildup of calcium in the coronary arteries (a calcium score of 100 or higher), with no blockages that are causing blood flow problems — the calcium scan must have been done within the past 3 years, and the blood flow assessment within the past 6 months
- People who have previously taken or are currently taking cholesterol-lowering medications (statins) or blood-thinning medications (anti-platelets) may still be considered
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a major heart or blood vessel event, such as a heart attack, unstable chest pain, a heart bypass or stent procedure, a stroke (not including TIAs/mini-strokes), or leg artery disease with symptoms or prior treatment
- People with coronary artery blockages that have been confirmed to significantly restrict blood flow, based on imaging and either a stress test or a pressure-wire measurement during a heart procedure
- People diagnosed with familial hypercholesterolemia (an inherited condition causing very high cholesterol)
- People with LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels of 190 mg/dL or higher, whether or not they are taking a statin
- People who need to continue taking a PCSK9 inhibitor (a type of cholesterol-lowering injection) during the trial period
- People with significantly reduced kidney function (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73m²)
- People with advanced liver disease (classified as Child-Pugh B or C)
- People with liver disease, bile duct blockage, or liver enzyme levels more than 5 times the normal upper limit
- People who have had gastrointestinal bleeding, a stomach ulcer, or bleeding in the brain within the 6 months before screening
- People who have had an organ transplant and are currently taking anti-rejection (immunosuppressive) medications
- People currently taking blood-thinning medications such as NOACs or warfarin
- People with a known significant allergic reaction to aspirin, statins, or ezetimibe
- People who have been diagnosed with cancer (other than certain minor skin cancers) in the past 3 years, or who are currently receiving cancer treatment
- People with a life expectancy of less than 1 year for any reason
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or of childbearing potential
- People with any other significant health abnormality identified at screening that the investigating doctor determines would make participation unsafe
- People who are unwilling or unable to follow the procedures required by the trial
