Who may and may not be able to join

AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who may be able to join

  • People who have a strong personal preference for no visible scarring on the chest after surgery
  • People who have not previously had chest surgery or radiation therapy to the chest
  • People who have no health conditions that would make surgery or anesthesia unsafe for them
  • People diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer (clinical Stage I) whose breast size and shape would allow good cosmetic results after surgery
  • People whose breast cancer, following pre-surgery treatment, now meets the standard requirements for breast-conserving surgery
  • People aged between 18 and 65 years old

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer
  • People whose tumor is large or positioned in a way that makes it difficult to remove with clear margins or to achieve a satisfactory breast appearance afterward
  • People who have widespread areas of calcifications in the breast that appear malignant on imaging
  • People where, after attempted removal of the tumor and surrounding tissue, clear (negative) margins cannot be confirmed even after a second surgery
  • People who do not wish to take part in the trial
