Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are between 18 and 25 years old
  • You are in good physical and mental health
  • (Cannabis-using group only) You have been using cannabis frequently (6 or more days per month) or daily for the past 3 months
  • (Cannabis-using group only) You are willing to stop using cannabis for 4 weeks during the study
  • (Non-cannabis/control group only) You have not used cannabis in the past 3 months, have not used it daily or nearly daily in the past year, have no history of alcohol or drug use disorders, and do not currently have any sleep problems
  • You are able and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have a significant or unstable physical health condition, such as a brain or nerve disorder, serious heart disease, liver disease, migraines, stomach ulcers, bowel disease, kidney failure, arthritis, diabetes, eye conditions like glaucoma, or a seizure disorder (confirm with trial site if unsure about your specific condition)
  • You have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or a psychotic disorder (past or present)
  • You drink alcohol every day or regularly use illegal drugs other than cannabis
  • You have a history of moderate or severe alcohol use disorder, or any other substance use disorder (other than cannabis, nicotine, or mild alcohol use disorder)
  • You have certain diagnosed sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, or sleep apnea, or you currently work night shifts between midnight and 6:00 a.m.
  • You have travelled across two or more time zones in the past 60 days
  • You currently take benzodiazepines or "Z-drug" sleeping medications (such as zolpidem/Ambien)
  • You hold a Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Card and use dispensary cannabis or THC products for a non-mental health medical condition
