For patients with Fabry disease:
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with Fabry disease confirmed by genetic testing
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a condition that makes it unsafe for you to undergo a special heart imaging scan using a medication to stress the heart, such as a recent heart attack, severe breathing problems, or certain irregular heart rhythms
- You have any reason why you cannot have an MRI scan, such as claustrophobia, metal objects or implants in your body, implanted electrical devices, or certain tattoos or permanent makeup that cannot be confirmed as MRI-safe
- You are currently pregnant
For healthy volunteers (age and sex-matched comparison group):
Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have been diagnosed with Fabry disease confirmed by genetic testing
- You are a family member of someone who has been diagnosed with Fabry disease through genetic testing
- You have a cancer that is expected to affect your life expectancy
- You have been diagnosed with heart failure, have previously had a stroke, or have a known kidney disease
- Your blood pressure medication has been started or changed within the last 3 months before joining the trial
- You have been told you have an enlarged heart muscle based on an ultrasound of the heart
- You have a condition that makes it unsafe for you to undergo a special heart imaging scan using a medication to stress the heart, such as a recent heart attack, severe breathing problems, or certain irregular heart rhythms
- You have any reason why you cannot have an MRI scan, such as claustrophobia, metal objects or implants in your body, implanted electrical devices, or certain tattoos or permanent makeup that cannot be confirmed as MRI-safe
- You are currently pregnant
