Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with chronic (long-term) liver disease, confirmed through medical tests and imaging.
- People whose liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, or HCC) has been assessed as suitable for a heat-based treatment called radiofrequency ablation (RFA), based on a standard liver cancer staging system called BCLC.
- People who have had a specific type of liver stiffness scan performed, using one of two approved devices (Fibroscan® or ACUSON Sequoia Siemens).
- People who have signed a form agreeing to take part in the trial (informed consent).
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age.
- People whose liver cancer has been diagnosed as a mixed type (hepatocholangiocarcinoma) or as a different kind of liver growth that is not hepatocellular carcinoma.
- People who have had a liver transplant or surgery to remove part of the liver for cancer within the past two years.
- People whose liver disease was in a severe, decompensated state (known as Child-Pugh C) either at the time of signing consent or within the three months before enrolling.
- People who have other serious, advanced health conditions that may affect life expectancy in the short term — for example, other cancers that have not gone into remission, severe heart failure, kidney failure requiring dialysis, or lung disease requiring home oxygen therapy.
