Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been diagnosed (by imaging or tissue sample) with a primary liver or bile duct cancer (such as hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, or a combined type) that occurred either without a known underlying chronic liver disease, or alongside a liver disease with no clear identified cause
  • You have had surgery to remove the tumour or have received a liver transplant as a curative treatment
  • You have signs of a chronic cholestatic liver condition (a condition where bile does not flow properly), shown by either: liver enzyme levels (GGT and/or alkaline phosphatase) being at least 1.5 times higher than normal on two or more tests taken at least 6 months apart, OR a history of persistent itching combined with raised bile acid levels for 6 months or more
  • You are willing and able to provide written consent to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have another known cause of chronic liver disease that could explain your symptoms, including conditions such as primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, IgG4-related bile duct disease, bile duct blockage, active hepatitis B, C, or E infection, heavy alcohol use, hereditary iron overload (haemochromatosis), Wilson's disease, or alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
