Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older, of any sex
  • People who have had a heart attack leading to a state of dangerously low blood flow (called cardiogenic shock or cardiac arrest), who are undergoing a procedure to open blocked heart arteries (called PCI, with or without a stent), and who need support from a heart-lung bypass machine (called VA-ECMO)
  • People who either received a specific blood-thinning medication (aspirin, given by injection) before arriving at hospital, or who have not taken any blood-thinning medications at all
  • People who are willing and able to provide written consent to participate

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have uncontrolled bleeding that cannot be stopped
  • People who are suspected of having bleeding inside the brain
  • People who have taken any amount of a type of blood-thinning tablet known as an oral P2Y12 inhibitor (such as clopidogrel, ticagrelor, or prasugrel)
  • People with a known history of stroke or a mini-stroke (also called a Transient Ischaemic Attack, or TIA)
  • People with a known allergy or sensitivity to the study drug (cangrelor) or any of its ingredients
  • People who are pregnant
