Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who regularly sleep less than 7 hours during the day (after night shifts)
- People who are willing to download an app called SHIFT and follow its lighting recommendations
- People who are able to stick to a set sleep schedule of 7 hours in bed after working night shifts
- People who work at least 4 night shifts per month
- People whose shifts start between 6:00pm and 2:00am and last between 8 and 12 hours
- People who score 8 or above on a standard daytime sleepiness questionnaire (Epworth Sleepiness Scale) and/or score 8 or above on a standard sleep difficulty questionnaire (Insomnia Severity Index)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another separate sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy
- People who have a history of seizures or other significant neurological conditions
- People who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder
- People who are no longer working a shift schedule or whose shift work is ending
- People who are pregnant
- People who are currently taking medications that affect sleep or wakefulness
- People who have a diagnosed alcohol or substance use disorder
