Who may be able to join

  • Children classified as generally healthy or with only mild systemic illness, based on a standard anaesthesia health rating scale (ASA classification I or II).
  • Children with a body mass index (a measure of weight relative to height) between 14 and 25 kg/m².
  • Children who are scheduled for a planned (non-emergency) surgery that can be fully managed using a regional or caudal nerve block (a type of localised pain-blocking injection, rather than full general anaesthesia).
  • Children whose parent or legal guardian has agreed to take part in the trial and has signed a consent form.

  • Children who require special care, or who are under the supervision of a court or social welfare agency.
  • Children who have had general anaesthesia within the 3 months before the screening period.
  • Children who have had a respiratory illness (such as a cold or breathing problem) in the past 2 weeks, or children whose airway is assessed as potentially difficult to manage (confirm with trial site).
  • Children with serious heart or blood vessel conditions, or with abnormalities of the hormone/gland systems (such as thyroid or diabetes-related conditions).
  • Children with a known psychiatric condition or difficulties with thinking and understanding.
  • Children with abnormal liver or kidney function, based on specific blood test results being above accepted normal ranges.
  • Children who are known or suspected to be allergic to the study drug or to a class of medications called benzodiazepines.
