Who might be able to join this trial:

Otosclerosis Group:

• Adults who have been diagnosed with a condition called otosclerosis, confirmed through hearing tests and clinical assessment
• People who have high-resolution CT scan images of the ear area and hearing test results available
• People who have had a specific type of ear surgery (stapedectomy or stapedotomy) to treat their condition
• People who have bone density measurements and vitamin D blood test results available

Control Group (people without otosclerosis):

• People who do not have otosclerosis but who have had a CT scan of the ear area taken for another reason
• People with no history of a type of hearing loss caused by sound not travelling properly through the ear
• People who have bone density measurements and vitamin D blood test results available

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have a history of conditions that primarily affect bone health, such as osteoporosis or Paget's disease
• People who take medications known to affect how the body processes bone, such as bisphosphonates or corticosteroids (a type of steroid)
• People who have a history of long-term ear infection (chronic otitis media) or who have had previous ear surgeries
• People who have received radiotherapy (radiation treatment) to the head or neck area
