Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between the ages of 20 and 75 years old
- People who have been referred by a healthcare professional because sleep apnea is suspected, based on signs such as excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, breathing pauses during sleep, or a high-risk result on a standard sleep apnea screening questionnaire
- People whose healthcare professional has determined that a full overnight sleep study (called polysomnography or PSG) is needed
- People who are willing to sign a consent form after being informed about what the trial involves, and who are able to understand and follow the study procedures
- People who agree to allow the research team to review relevant past medical records and include sleep apnea-related health history in the study records
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently using a device to treat sleep apnea — such as a CPAP machine or a mouthguard-type device — and who are unable to sleep safely without it
- People with significant ongoing breathing conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), unstable asthma, or other serious respiratory conditions that could affect sleep study results
- People with unstable heart conditions or who have recently been hospitalised for a heart-related issue
- People taking medications that affect sleep or muscle tone, such as sedatives or muscle relaxants
- People with physical features or conditions that may interfere with a small jaw-tracking device being worn during the study, such as significant facial hair, dental appliances, or serious dental problems
- People with neurological conditions that affect jaw muscle control or that produce symptoms similar to sleep apnea, such as Parkinson's disease or severe neurological effects from a stroke
- People who have been diagnosed with a psychiatric or psychological disorder under the DSM-IV or DSM-V classification systems, or who have other significant emotional or psychological history
- People considered unsuitable for the trial for any other reason, as determined by the principal investigator or sleep technician (confirm with trial site)
