- (For people with a diagnosed condition — "cases") People whose biological marker test results (from spinal fluid or brain scan) are in conflict with their clinical diagnosis.
- (For all subjects) People with significant other health conditions alongside the condition being studied.
- (For all subjects) People with severe physical illness or a previously diagnosed psychiatric condition.
- (For all subjects) People who are not able to give their own consent to take part in the study.
- (For all subjects) People with an active or unstable disease of the mouth or oral cavity, such as an ongoing infection or inflammation.
- (For all subjects) People who are fewer than 15 days past an acute health event (if one has occurred).
- (For all subjects) People who have a local or widespread infection or inflammation detected through routine medical tests.
