Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older who have coronary artery disease (a condition where the arteries supplying the heart become narrowed or blocked)
  • People who are having a procedure called PCI (a procedure to open blocked or narrowed heart arteries) where a special balloon coated with medication — called a drug-coated balloon — is planned as part of the treatment
  • People having this balloon treatment for various reasons, including stable heart artery disease or more urgent heart conditions such as a heart attack
  • People where the balloon treatment is being used on different types of blockages, including new blockages, blockages that have returned inside a previously placed stent, blockages at artery branch points, blockages in small or large arteries, or long-standing complete blockages
  • People where the artery was successfully prepared before the balloon was used, meaning the blockage was reduced enough and there were no serious tears in the artery wall (as judged by the treating doctor)
  • People for whom complete medical, imaging, and procedure records are available
  • People who are able to give their consent to join the study, or whose existing medical data is available for use under local rules for studies that look back at past records
  • People who are able to attend planned check-up appointments after the procedure

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose treatment plan does not include a drug-coated balloon — for example, those receiving only a drug-eluting stent (a small mesh tube with medication coating) without the balloon
  • People who are in cardiogenic shock (a life-threatening condition where the heart cannot pump enough blood) at the time of the procedure
  • People with a non-heart-related illness that means their life expectancy is less than one year
  • People who cannot take antiplatelet medications (medicines that help prevent blood clots)
  • People with a known severe allergy to the dye used during heart imaging procedures, where pre-treatment to manage the allergy is not possible
  • People who are pregnant
  • People who would not be able to attend or complete the required follow-up check-ups
  • People already taking part in another clinical trial that involves a treatment or intervention that could affect how results are measured

This study is not part of the standard drug-approval phase pathway (for example an observational, device, behavioural, or registry study), so a phase success rate does not apply.
