Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Men and postmenopausal women (more than 2 years since their last period) between the ages of 50 and 75

  • People who are willing to be randomly assigned to eat either a daily peanut snack or a nut-free snack every day for 24 weeks

  • People with a significant psychiatric condition or an eating disorder
  • People who currently have cancer or have been diagnosed with cancer in the past 3 years
  • People with a history of bone disease, type 1 or type 2 diabetes, gastrointestinal disease, overactive parathyroid glands, untreated thyroid disease, or significant immune, liver, heart, or kidney disease
  • People with high blood pressure or high cholesterol that is not well controlled
  • People who have had surgery in the past 6 months, or weight-loss surgery in the past 3 years
  • People who regularly take medications that affect bone health, such as bisphosphonates or hormone replacement therapy
  • People who regularly take medications that affect the digestive system, or who have conditions including coronary heart disease, heart attack, tuberculosis, or HIV/AIDS (confirm with trial site for full details)
  • People who have taken antibiotics in the past month
  • People with alcohol or illicit drug misuse
  • People currently participating in another clinical research trial
  • People with any other condition that the study doctor determines would prevent safe participation in the trial
