Who may be able to join
- People between the ages of 40 and 99
- People who are native English speakers
- People who are willing and able to give their consent to take part, and to attend brain scans and memory/thinking tests at set times during the study
- People who are either cognitively normal older adults, or who have preclinical Alzheimer's disease (very early signs of Alzheimer's that have not yet caused noticeable symptoms)
Who may not be able to join

- People who have had a head injury that caused them to lose consciousness or become confused
- People who have another major brain or mental health condition
- People who are known to have a structural problem in their brain, such as a tumour or a stroke-related injury
- People who cannot have an MRI scan, for example because they have a pacemaker, aneurysm clips, an artificial heart valve, ear implants, or any metal fragments or foreign objects in their eyes, skin, or body
- People who have had a long history (more than 10 years) of alcohol or drug misuse that continued up until the time their current symptoms began
- People who have a significant ongoing physical illness or unstable health condition that could make it difficult to follow the study requirements
- People who are not willing to return for follow-up visits, or to undergo thinking and memory tests, TMS (a non-invasive brain stimulation procedure), or MRI scans
- People who have a history of seizures that occurred without a clear medical cause
- People who have a parent or sibling with a seizure disorder
- People who are currently taking, or plan to take, certain medications considered to carry a higher risk of triggering seizures — including clozapine, high doses of bupropion (over 400mg daily), diphenhydramine, cyclosporine, isoniazid, imipenem, chloroquine, tramadol, or theophylline
