Who may be able to join
- People who have been diagnosed with recurring moderate or severe major depression, or long-lasting (persistent) depression.
- People whose current episode of depression has not improved enough with antidepressant tablets or capsules taken by mouth.
- People who have been taking oral antidepressant medication for at least 8 weeks and are willing to keep taking the same medication at the same dose throughout the study.
- People who score 22 or higher on a standard depression rating scale (called the HAM-D17) at both the screening appointment and the first day of the study.
- People who, in the opinion of the study doctor, are willing and able to follow all study procedures and requirements.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have been diagnosed with another mental health condition in the past year that was the main focus of their treatment, other than depression.
- People who the study doctor considers to be at immediate risk of harming themselves or others.
- People whose depression did not respond to a treatment called electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) during their current episode of depression.
