Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You are 18 years of age or older
  • You have had trouble sleeping at least 3 nights per week for at least 3 months, diagnosed as chronic insomnia
  • Your main sleep problem is difficulty falling asleep, and it typically takes you more than 20 minutes to fall asleep
  • Your score on the Insomnia Severity Index is 15 or higher (the trial site can help you determine this)
  • You can speak and understand English

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have been diagnosed with another sleep disorder (such as narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, or REM sleep behavior disorder) in addition to insomnia
  • You work shift work or regularly work night shifts
  • You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You regularly practice mind-body activities such as meditation or yoga two or more times per week
  • You have a pacemaker or regularly take heart medications that affect your heart rate, such as beta-blockers
  • You have a neurological condition (such as epilepsy, dementia, stroke, or Parkinson's disease) or a current diagnosis of a psychotic disorder, substance use disorder, or trauma-related disorder
  • You are currently taking medications that affect sleep, such as sleeping pills, benzodiazepines, or certain antidepressants (confirm with trial site)
  • You have hearing loss or impairment
