- People who have painful conditions in the mouth (such as tooth infections, tooth decay, broken teeth, abscesses, mouth ulcers, or wounds inside the mouth)
- People who have had recent dental procedures that may be causing pain (such as a tooth extraction or root canal treatment)
- People who are currently using oral contraceptives (the contraceptive pill)
- People who are not able to understand the study or make their own decisions about taking part
- People who have a neurological condition (such as dementia), a psychiatric condition, or a substance use disorder (as defined by DSM-5 criteria, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, substance abuse, or personality disorders) that may affect their ability to complete study questionnaires
